Sea Duck Key Habitat Sites Atlas

This atlas describes 85 important sites for sea ducks in North America. It is intended to heighten awareness of valuable habitats, aid in prioritizing conservation and protection efforts, and provide information for environmental assessments. You can also view these sites through an interactive story map.

Sea Duck Feather Archive

The Joint Venture has collected over 7,000 feather samples from North American sea ducks to serve as an archive for studies investigating population connectivity and dynamics using genetic and stable isotope techniques.

Sea Duck Harvest Assessment

The SDJV supports targeted research to reduce uncertainty around harvest estimates and inform harvest management decisions. Reports, publications, and resources related to harvest assessment are available on this page.

Monitoring Sea Ducks

This page provides recommendations for monitoring North American sea ducks. The SDJV encourages federal and state agencies to continue funded surveys and develop new surveys that provide critical sea duck data. The Joint Venture will continue to support research to determine the best methods to monitor sea ducks and obtain unbiased population estimates.

How We Catch Sea Ducks

To understand sea duck ecology, researchers often need to capture sea ducks to take measurements and tissue samples and attach radio or satellite transmitters. Learn about the waterfowl capture methods used by sea duck biologists.
